My children feel excellent when we play this stress reduction game. It is most fun for them when they can use their outdoor voices. We say silly little phrases or meaningful phrases like 'I Love You'. You take a very deep breath and say the phrase until you have absolutely no more breath left. It works for adults too. It's a fun way to do the deep breathing stress reduction technique. My kids love it because they can be loud and silly. I love it because it de-stresses them. Some people say, 'what stress can a child have?' The answer is simple - they have tons of stress. Have you ever watched a young child try to put a square block into the round hole? They get terribly frustrated and keep trying to jam it in there. The best answer is to redirect and calmly teach them. That's what stress reduction does for any of us: redirects so we can calmly think. My little boy loves the yelling exercise. Work is sometimes stressful - I will also suggest the exercise to my coworkers - it might just work. :-P
