The first snow day was awesome to play in. Although it melted, here are ideas to prep for the next winter wonderland day: Colored Ice Globes, Coloring the Snow, & Snow Ice Cream
Colored Ice Globes: Fill balloons with water & food coloring. After frozen in snow, remove the balloon. It needs to 2 days to freeze solidly. Freezing only one night will still have colored water in the globe, that may leak, but the color is rich (as shown in the pic.) After 2 days of solidly freezing, the color is lighter. My kids loved decorating snowy mounds with these colorful treasures. The idea came from this wonderful post.
Color the Snow: Fill a squirt bottle with water & food coloring. Let the kids paint a masterpiece on the snow. You can use water bottles or old shampoo bottles as squirters.
Snow Ice Cream: We didn’t do this at the first snowfall, but did it last year. Mix 1 cup milk, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 tsp vanilla extract until sugar is dissolved. Then slowly add about 5 cups fresh snow (not packed). Honey can also substitute for the vanilla extract.
