The following press release is provided by the Junior League of Peoria
The Junior League of Peoria will host the Truck Stop on October 24 from 10-3pm at Northwoods Mall.
The one-day event is an opportunity for families throughout Central Illinois to experience fifty unique vehicles they would not typically get to see up close. Some of the vehicles include Army trucks, street sweepers, garbage and fire trucks, hot rods, an ice cream mobile and the Peoria Public Library Bookmobile.
“We’ve been thrilled with the response our community has had to this unique event,” said Holli Heinz, Event Chair. “Some of the communities’ most wonderful labors and business owners have volunteered their time and equipment to provide central Illinois with a unique hands-on opportunity.”
In addition to vehicle displays, this event will feature a variety of live demonstrations from Greater Peoria Sanitary District along with a raffle to win a soapbox derby car. Magician Greg Joyce will be on-site throughout the event. Multiple tents staffed by Junior League volunteers will offer additional educational opportunities for children in which to participate.
“We are fortunate to partner with organizations who realize there is a great value in the power of collaboration. Many of our organization’s best achievements could not have occurred without successful public-private partnerships, and we’re happy that the spirit has carried over to this exciting event”, said Junior League President, Julie Balkema.
Partner businesses such as Chuck’s Towing and Recovery will be on site, allowing kids close inspection of their trucks and equipment. “The Junior League has organized many successful projects to date,” said Vice President, Donnie Stanton. “We’re happy to be working with them and think this is a great opportunity for the people of Peoria.”
Admission is $5 for those one year and older. Net proceeds from the event will benefit The Junior League of Peoria and their community projects.
