From the WTVP website

WTVP’s PBS KIDS GO! WRITERS CONTEST 2012 is up and running! Entries are due by
March 30 so there’s still plenty of time to enter. The contest is open to kids in Kindergarten through Third Grade, and local prizes are awarded in each grade level. First place winners will also be sent on to the national level of competition where they will compete with other winning entries from PBS stations across the country for fame, glory and fabulous prizes including mp3 players, e-readers and tablet computers!

NEW THIS YEAR! Parents and teachers can register their children online through a tool developed by new Contest sponsor, StudentPublishing.com. Just follow this link , enter the information, accept the rules and print out the resulting entry form to include with your story submission to WTVP. Every participant that uses this online tool can upload their book to the site and receive a free animated digital book of their story that they can share with others, including parents who can purchase bound copies of the entry as a keepsake for years to come. THE ORIGINAL, HARD-COPY BOOK MUST STILL BE SENT TO WTVP.

Entries can be fiction or non-fiction, poetry or prose and must contain at least five illustrations. Artwork can include drawings, photos (taken by the child), collages, 3-D …anything goes as long as it is the original work of the child. Stories from K-1 must have between 50 and 200 words, and grades 2-3 must have 100-350 words. Children who can’t write yet may dictate their story to an adult, and “invented spelling” is allowed. Complete rules available at registration.

Having trouble with the online entry tool? Contact Stacey for help or traditional forms, (309) 495-0594.

Stories will be judged at individual grade levels by a panel of judges that includes local teachers, librarians and various professionals. All winners will have their works published on the WTVP website and be treated to a party and prizes in the WTVP Studio. All entrants will receive a special Certificate of Achievement.

Don’t delay … entries are due to the station by 5:00 p.m. on March 30! Need inspiration? Check out last year’s winning stories right here. And watch PBSKIDS GO! weekday afternoons starting at 3 on WTVP.
